Vista Service Pack problem?

Hi

I absolutely love you product and use it on a daily basis. What I'm not so fond of is MS. After one of the following automatic updates I started to get an error message in SUPER that I never seen before (see list item 4 at the end). I'm 100% sure it is due to the updates since I haven't installed anyhting else in weeks. Also I have tried re-encode files thatI could work with before the update and still the same problem, hence it is not a problem with the media file. The updates are

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.29.7920.0)
Installation date: ‎2008-‎03-‎21 02:12
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330)
Installation date: ‎2008-‎03-‎19 21:57
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.29.7831.0)
Installation date: ‎2008-‎03-‎19 01:39
Installation status: Successful
Update type: Important

The service pack was huge so it's of course the most obvious scape goat. Any ideas? I have re-installed SUPER but no change. Should I do a system restore?

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

this is very unfortunate you get the blue screen running SUPER(C)
we couldn't manage at all to duplicate this error on our Vista and Vista SP1 units
where SUPER(C) runs and encodes like a charm.

here's a post from 2 users successfully using Vista/SP1 with the Mar 22, 2008 build
usually content users will never bother to show and report, "hey everything is great"
http://www.w3exchange.com/p7287-today-110046.html#p7287
http://www.w3exchange.com/p7262-yesterd … html#p7262

you need to know that since the last release 48 hours ago, some 42 000 copy
were downloaded and installed.
11% out of the users are running Vista which makes about 4600 Vista users ONLY for
the last build till this hour.

so far, you are only 4 (out of 4600) to report this error, 3 on this page and 1 in here
http://www.w3exchange.com/p7275-today-024642.html#p7275

you must have something in common installed on your PC causing this, but how could we know?

we know that when Vista crashes for any reason, it leaves a dump file in here
\Windows\Minidump\Minixxxxx-xx.dmp
this file according to MicroSoft, is "supposed" to provide more details about the situation.
you want to try to open this file using a debugger tool WinDbg.exe from MicroSoft.
read about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinDbg
download it http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symb … .8.4.0.msi

if we could compare the results of your dump file readings, we might be able to help you more.

in the mean time, see if this would help running the program
http://www.w3exchange.com/p6037-2007-12 … html#p6037

details for compatibility mode
   a. right click on SUPER.exe in the folder were SUPER(C) is installed
   b. select properties
   c. compatibility tab
   d. run as Win XP SP2

good luck.

Launch of SUPER doesn't work better when checking "XP SP2" compatibility......

Really a shame that I won't use my favorite's encoding software anymore....

Thanks for your suport

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

Hi

I woulk like to thank 96crypt_mod effort to help us even thoug it has you say has proven to work on almost all set ups with vista.

I will try to list my other programs and mostly related to media encoding/playback to see if other people with problem can see patterns to their set up. Thankful for anyhelp. even if the help is that you have the program and SUPER works on your set up
- AutoGK (including all freeware e.g.avisynth, Xvidcodec)
- VirtualDUB
- iTunes/Quicktime
- SubtitleCreator
- VLC
- SubRip
- Arcsoft Media Converter (which I was hoping to be as good as Super but of course dissapointment struck for the 26th time
- Arcsoft Media Extreme (Blueray playback)
- AnyDVD (HDVD/Blueray)
- DVD shrink
- iMonmedia HD
- F-secure antivirus
- divx codec
+ standard windows stuff e.g. media center and media player

I have tried these things so far
- reinstall with english (used swedish originally)
- run in compatibility mode for XP SP2

My SUPER don't bluescreen any more but the computer freezes and I have to plug the plug.

Is there any instruction to remove all registry entried for SUPER? I use an externaldrive to load and save media files from  and I  want to use SUPER standard to exclude all things that couldcause error how far fetched they might be

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

Hello,
I have the same problem after I have installed Sp 1 for Vista. The system makes a Reboot. Executing in a compatibility mode does not bring about any change. Can be started incredibly without Reboot only if I start Vista in the protected mode.

I think the version 30 was a fast shot.

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

I don't know weather to cry or laugh? Now I can't recreate the crash anymore. Everything works and that is no help to others. The only thing I can imagine I did was that during the debug process I took ownership of the Wìndows folder and gave myself full permission on the files ín the top folder of windows. Sorry if I can't be to more help.

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

Problem keeps repeating after i kill just about every process running in the system (except windows-related ones).

I'll try to post my debug info later, if i can.

Man I hate Vista, it is the most flawed and crippled OS i've ever seen, and SP1 only makes it worse!!

Thanks for the support anyway.

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

we are really willing to help (it's obvious) but we need details, more details..

1)please run the debugging tools for windows by Microsoft as indicated here
http://www.w3exchange.com/p7293-2008-03 … html#p7293
2)once installed, open the exe file WinDbg.exe
3)go to File>Open CrashDump
4)select the dump file(s) that are usually located in \windows\Minidump they have dmp extension
5) try to read what caused the crash.

6)go the where SUPER(C) is installed. (DO NOT LAUNCH SUPER)
7)open a DOS box then type DXdump.exe then hit enter, nothing should happen and nothing should be written.

8)provide some detailed info at which level the crash is occurring,
a.did you get a small window box saying all files were correctly installed during installation
b.did it open an internet page
c.do you see the bar icon of SUPER(C) just before the crash on the tray bar

As you can see (same as Kurgan here) problem takes place within csrss.exe, which is a windows process.

Next, typing DXdump.exe in SUPER directory...Nothing happens, nothing is written

About the crash, I'll try to post more info later (now is not really a good time to crash my pc, sorry)

SUPER installation process is correct, all files intalled and it tries to open help page with Internet Explorer.

When launching SUPER, IT APPEARS several seconds on the tray bar, then crashes. No "Looking for updates" window or any other message is shown.

Thanks again!!! I'll probably won't be able to read the forum again till friday, then i'll post more info, if you need it.

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

I yelled to soon last time. Even though SUPER started and I could add media files the computer freezed after like 10 sec of encoding. Now with the new/old super.exe it has encoded 30 minues.

I just read wawawawa42'spost and realised that I forgot to tell you that miy installations and uninstallations never worked correctly. It always complain on the ac3DX.ax file. But that was with the last 2 builts as well.

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

My config works now. Using 96crypt_mod new executible and setting ALL other executibles in the super folder to XP SP2 compatible does the trick in my mind.

Re: Vista Service Pack problem?

Hi !
I've just had the "blue screen" problem...
I'm not very good at computers, and I'm French, so I didn't understand everything in the posts, but I have tried running Super as administrator, I've tried the XPsp2 compatibility, and nothing will work, it's still that horrible blue screen...
The thing is, I had kept the setup file for the previous Super version (ferbruary 2008), which worked, and I thought I would uninstall the March version and put back the old one : the install was ok, everything was right, but when I tried to launch Super, it never did !
So, when I have the March version, I get the blue screen, and when I have the February version, nothing happens...
I really hope there will be a solution, because Super saves my (working) life very often !
