I have converted some vob files to xvid but they all have the following at the bottom of the screen; lead mpeg2 eval decoder (2.0). How do I remove this ?

Getting rid of it is difficult. It wouldn't be there if you used a decent codec pack. I recommend K-Lite Mega codec pack. It seems to have just about everything you need and doesn't screw up your system like some do.
