1/2 second delay with wmv-9 file

I have been trying to save a WMV-HD file from 1080x720 down to 720x480 in order to put in on a DATA DVD to play on my DivX playable DVD player. Here are the details

Code::

Analyzing the source file mariposaHD S01E04 720p.wmv

    General #0

    CompleteName :                  F:\123 New\mariposaHD S01E04 720p.wmv
    FileSize/String :                 933 MiB
    Format/String :                 Windows Media
    OveralBitRate/String :          4751 Kbps
    PlayTime/String :               27mn 26s
    Movie :                         mariposaHD S01E04
    Copyright :                     ? 2006 Motamorfosis Productions
    WM/ParentalRating :             TV-PG

    Video #0

    Codec/String :                  WMV3
    Codec/Info :                    Windows Media Video 9
    BitRate/String :                4556 Kbps
    Width :                         1280
    Height :                        720
    AspectRatio/String :            16/9

    Audio #0

    Codec/String :                  WMA3
    Codec/Info :                    Windows Media Audio 3
    BitRate/String :                192 Kbps
    Channel(s)/String :             2 channels
    SamplingRate/String :           48 KHz

Playing the file with Media Player Classic works fine, but in Super there's a -500ms sound delay.  When I try to convert 2 minutes of the video to AVI format, and play it in MPC, That -500 or -600 ms delay exists. I know this because I could manually correct it with MPC. However this AVI file is no good to transfer to the DVD since that
delay is not manually fixable on the DVD player.  I was finally able to get a MP4 file (Xvid/AAC) to work, however I have yet to transfer and test this on the DVD player because it only wants avi/mpg/mpeg files.  It does accept codecs for DivX3/4/5, Xvid, MP43 and 3IVX (max res of 720x576). For the AVI settings, it did not seem to make a difference if I tried Divx, Xvid or H.264.  The same 1/2 second delay occurs when I tried saving the into .WMV format.

The avi info is as follows

Code::

Analyzing the source file        mariposaHD_S01E04_480p.avi

    General #0
    CompleteName :                  G:\Temp\mariposaHD_S01E04_480p.avi
    FileSize/String :               12.3 MiB
    Format/String :                 Audio Video Interleave
    OveralBitRate/String :          859 Kbps
    PlayTime/String :               2mn
    Director :                      created.with.SUPER(C).v2006.19

And the MP4 file that works with no audio/video sync problems is

Code::

Any ideas as to why SUPER and created AVI files have a 1/2 second delay ?

Re: 1/2 second delay with wmv-9 file

When encoding your input file into AVI[Xvid, mp3], try the following:
1. Either select 48000 Khz as sampling rate (instead of 44100)
2. Or select ffmpeg instead of MEncoder.

Another point you need to know, the delay "might" be caused by your player.
It means the file could be correctly encoded, but your DirectShow decoder is creating
this delay when playing the AVI file with WindowsMediaPlayer.
Did you try to play the AVI file with SUPER(C) and see if any delay is occuring?
With which player you played the MP4 file?

Re: 1/2 second delay with wmv-9 file

As I stated first "Playing the file with Media Player Classic works fine, but in Super there's a -500ms sound delay", and it plays fine in the most updated version of WMP 9.  The file works on both computers using MPC 9, latest MPC and RealPlayer 10.

However, I checked the second computer, and Super plays the wmv file ok but trying to convert to avi (xvid/mp3 w/48000k) still gives me a 1/2 second delay.  I'm sure that both computers are not in sync in terms of which codecs they have installed or which is actually being used. Not sure how to figure that out !  Which DirectShow decoder ?

I do know that MPC filters show WMVideo Decoder DMO and WMAudio ... on both PCs so why would Super have a 1/2 second delay on one computer but not the other ?

I played the MP4 file with MPC and Super, both ok.
