Necessary codecs are built in!

On the SUPER © it says in big bold red type:
SUPER © does NOT require any additional external codec to be installed, absolutely nothing. Necessary codecs are built in!

Should I understand this in the way that all codecs that come with SUPER © are only used internally and that are not in any way installed on my computer, or is SUPER © installing the codecs (adding them to the Windows registry perhaps) and is it simply not displaying them in the general list of installed codecs? smiley-rolleyes

Re: Necessary codecs are built in!

The codecs installed by SUPER(C) are ALL part of the CommandLine encoders, they
are compiled inside the CommandLine ecoders: ffmpeg, MEncoder, ffmpeg2theroa, x264...
They are all insatlled in the same folder where you have decided to install SUPER(C).
They will never ever appear in any Registery key or any "general list of installed codecs" as you called it, because non of them is a DirectShow ActiveX filter,
or shared Dynamic library.

When you select ffmpeg, you select its set of codecs, when you select MEncoder, you select its set of codecs.. etc..
All other codecs installed on your PC are totally useless to SUPER(C), he doesn't even see them.

Hope that I was able to clarify this issue to you.
Cheers

Re: Necessary codecs are built in!

which of these comand line encoders would you recommend for encoding .vob files from DVD's to xvid .avi or doesn't it really matter. Also would it matter if i used the divX codec instead of the Xvid codec as the DivX codec is faster, however the Xvid codec is supossed to produce better quality video files? i'm sure this question was asked previously on the older forum but i cannont remember the answer. I think they produced a generic MPEG4 file.

thanks in advance

Re: Necessary codecs are built in!

ffmpeg and MEncoder use both the same libavcodec library for encoding. It is part of the compiled binary.
It simply differs in the decoding NOT the encoding. I found that ffmpeg is more flexible,
but MEncoder handles various input file type.
As for Xvid, you are right about its low speed, however if you want to use the real Xvid video codec,
not the DivX or MPEG-4 generic one with Xvid fourCC, then better for you to choose MEncoder.

After all, it's a matter of personal preference, for that reason I provided both.
You may try to encode a 30~40 sec using the Other Opts and the
Encode Only For A Total Duration Of xxx sec this way you can compare quickly the results.
