Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

Hi, I'm using SUPER to convert from youtube flv's to 3gp. Right after I install SUPER everything works fine, but in some time - I assume after reboot or standby when I process the same files with same settings - it generates an error: ".. possible reasons: you didn't check directShow...input file is not valid...interruption due to low disc space, ram.." - a pretty not informative message.
To fix it I just reinstall SUPER and reboot. No other soft is being installed at the time, so It's not possible that smth replaces the codecs/breaks the libs...
Can you help me?

Unlike what you may think, they are very informative.
Your FLV YouTube file is NOT using the flv1 codec but rather the flv4, which is not
not supported by SUPER(C) (please read the FAQ)
We suggest using DirectShow for those who has on their PC the appropriate
DirectShow ActiveX filter already installed to Decode the flv4 codec. With an
appropriate filter you CAN even encode with SUPER(C) the YouTube FLV files (flv4) using the On2 VP6 codec.

Waste of time.

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

Ok, thanks, but I don't understand, why it works just after I install SUPER and stops working in a while.
Could you provide some instructions on how to be able to convert the FLVx all the time? What do I need for youtube videos, I mean codecs+settings+...?
I can install k-lite codec pack, which for sure has the needed codec (I can play the flvs with its media player), will this help?
Actually if I install SUPER after k-lite pack, it can't convert to 3gp the flvs at all (reinstall doesn't help smiley-smile )
Thanks!

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

There are currently 2 widely available FLV file-type on the net.
The most commun one uses a Video Codec called flv1 (which is a sorenson H.263)
this one can be played by SUPER(C) and encoded to other formats with the "Use DirectShow" Un-checked.

A second one, often available on YouTube not on GoogleVideo, is using a
Video Codec called flv4 (which is a On2 VP6)
This one CANNOT be played on SUPER(C), however, you may be able to encode it
to other formats if, and ONLY if you have the appropriate DirectShow filter to read flv4 codec.
Therefore, the "Use Directshow" option must be checked in this case.

conclusion:
flv1 can be played, can be encoded with the "Use DirectShow" switch Un-Checked
flv4 (vp6) CANNOT be played, but can be encoed (if filter installed) ONLY with "Use DirectShow" Checked

Now, the obvious question would be: why the flv4 Directshow filter wasn't released with the last SUPER(C) version.
The answer is even more obvious: It wasn't available at that time (April 2006)
The second question would be: where can I get it?
I would answer: from here
Save it in your Windows\System32 folder (For WinNt, Win2K, WinXP, Vista)
also get  this one then double click to run it.

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

I did that, but I still have this problem. Can't convert to 3gp the flvs. After some time SUPER produces errors while making them.
I'm pretty sure this is a SUPER bug/issue/compatibility problem rather than codec lack. As I say, It could produce 3gps before I registered the *.ax and after, regardless 'Use DirectShow' checkbox. But only for some time after reboot-installation cycle. Sometimes reboot is enough. Perhaps, some other app is using the same codec (like browser playing youtube video) or whatever might interrupt SUPER.

The second link does not work for me (using firefox).  Is there anywhere else I can find it?  Thanks

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

Use MSIE or OPERA.
Right-Click and save target as also works well.

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

Alright, using MSIE I was able to run that file and it said the .ax file would now work.  However, I still am not able to convert any youtube (flv4) into any type of file.  Neither with or without directshow work, and i'm resizing all videos to 320x240 so size should not be an issue.  To acquire the flv4 videos I am using the "videdownloader" mod for Firefox.  If there is anything wrong I have done or anything else to try please let me know!

Thanks for all the help.

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

Those "download manager" may sometimes be a source of trouble.
To be on the sage side, why don't you simply use MSIE and use a "right-click" then a "save target as.."

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

The reason I used a download manager was because youtube does not allow me to right click and save the video at all (in any browser), unless there is a trick or a setting that must be changed.

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

Sorry, I wasn't talking about the YouTube download, I was rather talking about
the links I provided for the .ax and the .bat files.

Re: Encoding FLV1 / FLV4 files

So does anyone have any more ideas to get the filter to work or something else that will let me convert flv4 files?
