Latest version of SUPER fails to recognise XP after SP3

Hi all,

I'm sorry, but I too am getting this:

OS :: Required: Windows(R) :: Found: Win XP [PROBLEM]

"OS" Problem causes all kind of errors with most output containers/codecs
Could be due to a slow PC, very low available RAM or require Rebooting.

It happened after I applied SP3 to XP.

If I ignore the warning, then some files will convert, but others will not.

This MAY be a seperate problem however - I click on the files to to get the codec details and the ones that will not convert say this:

Format : Windows Media
File size : 983 KiB
PlayTime : 3mn 2s
Bit rate mode : CBR
Bit rate : 44 Kbps
BitRate_Maximum : 48 Kbps
Encoded date : UTC 2004-10-02 22:05:50.968

AspectRatioY : 1

WHILE ALL THE ONES THAT WILL CONVERT SAY THIS::

PlayTime : 34s 596ms
Bit rate mode : VBR
Bit rate : 702 Kbps
BitRate_Maximum : 794 Kbps

Display Aspect ratio : 4/3
Frame rate : 30.000 fps
Resolution : 24 bits
Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.321
Language : en-au
DeviceConformanceTemplate : @

Audio #0
Codec : WMA2
Codec/Info : Windows Media Audio 2
Codec description : Windows Media Audio 9.1 - 64 kbps, 44 kHz, stereo (A/V) 1-pass CBR
Bit rate mode : CBR
Bit rate : 64 Kbps
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Sampling rate : 44.1 KHz
Language : en-au
DeviceConformanceTemplate : L1

I also updated Windows Media Player at the same time, but cannot think why WMV2 will convert, while WMV3 won't. I have tried checking and unchecking Direct Show decode, but it makes no difference.

I would be most grateful for any help - The computer is a Dell Inspiron 9100, 3GHZ Intel, 3GB RAM (SUPER only reports 2GB, but the full 3GB is there and working) with 34GB free on c: drive

Re: Latest version of SUPER fails to recognise XP after SP3

AHA!!!

Thank you so much for the education - I really appreciate it!

Both types of files were .flv and both encoded with WMV, so I somehow overlooked the audio codecs being different - Duh! I appologise for that...

May I ask people's advice on how to convert .flv (WMV3) to .avi, while keeping the best quality please? Only I'm unfamiliar with the WMSpeech codec.

Thank you again for all of your help!

Tony

a simple clarification: FLV container/format can only use flv or vp6 as video codecs
the wmv3 video codec cannot be used (AFAIK) inside an FLV container.

Both files you provided are in WMV container (not FLV), to encode to avi:
Select avi Output Container
Select DivX Output Video Codec
Select mp3 Output Audio Codec
Select VideoScaleSize NoChange
Uncheck "DirectShow Decode"
Leave all rest to default
you may try MEncoder or FFmpeg to find which gives you better results.
Hit encode

your file using the WMSpeech audio codec will not encode correctly..

Re: Latest version of SUPER fails to recognise XP after SP3

Hi again!

Not my day is it? I'm sorry, I was distracted and did of course mean they were WMV files - Sorry...!

I tried FFmpeg, but none would convert, all saying "error". I then tried MEncoder and DX50 and they all converted! Quality wasn't very good though. I tried changing to something that might offer better quality, by being almost completely uncompressed.

I found some setting that are offering almost VHS quality - Amazing considering the small size and high compression they had orignally come in.

I used the output settings of:

AVI - DV - WAV-PCM16 (little-endian)
MEncoder
Video scale was 720x576 and 25fps

This is because I'm in the UK and usually work in 25 fps though.

Thank you again for all of your help, there's no way I would have got this far without your help. SUPER really lives up to it's name, it just need kind people like you, to help!

Best wishes,

Tony

corrrect, WMSpeech won't encode but all others should encode flawlessly..

With the DX50, you may try increasing the Video Bitrate from 1008 Kbps to 3600 Kbps
keep the VideoScaleSize on NoChange and encode.
