Convert MKV to AVI fails, mutiple problems

Hi. I'm new at this so please excuse my naivety. I have several mkv files ranging from 60,000 Kb to 710,000 Kb which I would like to convert to avi format so that I may watch them. However, when I do convert them they do not come out as intended. First, the file size is significantly smaller. Second, the track length of the video is reduced. A file with a length of over an hour is reduced down to only eight minutes. Third, the audio track is out of sync. I don't know about sound effects but speech is lagging behind the video at least five seconds. The selected output container is avi, output video codec is H.264/AVC, and the output audio codec is mp3.

A file with a length of over an hour is reduced down to only eight minutes.

MEncoder that you have selected seems to abort encoding due to some broken frame,
therefore you are only getting 8 minutes of output with a relatively small size file

do you notice the "out of sync" even when you play the rendered avi file with SUPER(C)

No, but I have no interest in using Super as my media player.

no one is asking you to use SUPER(C) as a media player.
the question was very clear:
do you notice the "out of sync" even when you play the rendered avi file with SUPER(C)

you are encoding in AVI[H.264, mp3]
H.264  is NOT a native codec in windows, therefore you are using a DirectShow decoder
to play this file on any other player.
If your DirectShow Decoder cannot cope with the heavy H.264 decoding process, you
will get an out-of-synch

SUPER(C) does NOT use any DirectShow Decoder when playing this file, therefore, you
will not have any out of synch when playing it with SUPER(C).

conclusion:
It is NOT the file who has the out-of-synch, it is your slow H.264 DirectShow Decoder installed on your PC

to solve and help your slow PC/DirectShow decoder, re-encode the file using a max
VideoScaleSize of 320:240

Re: Convert MKV to AVI fails, mutiple problems

Okay, I'll try that. To clarify, I was afraid you were going to tell me to just watch it in Super.

Re: Convert MKV to AVI fails, mutiple problems

HI:
Same problem.

96crypt_mod wrote:

Yes still out of sync.

Try encodind in wmv, mov, mp4 etc... whit divx, mpeg4... etc and still out of synch.
When I check Directshow the audio is synchronized but the image looks very bad.
... and ffmpg selected.

I´m using version 2008 B.32 in vista 64. All the rest is working perfect.

Re: Convert MKV to AVI fails, mutiple problems

Same thing is happening here - I was going along quite nicely converting mkv to avi/divx files with no problem. Now, no matter what settings I choose, Super can't to a complete conversion. I started out with a 183MB file the first time the conversion stopped at 110MB; I tried it again and it stopped at 106; now with the same original file it 87MB. I tired rebooting and running only Super; I tried DLing and converting a new/clean version of the file to a new output file, I tried changing to Xvid and mpg - same result. It starts out just fine then, wham, it hits 87MB the little progress bar that goes all green and it stops at 87MB.

When I play the mkv file with mplayer it plays just fine as an mkv

Any thoughts?

Thanks
