Converting a camera video to .AVI or .MOV??

I have a video, which I thought was converted to .AVI, because it said so in the file, but when I uploaded it to Youtube, it wouldn't upload. So, now I want to convert it to .MOV and it's a .AVI. How do I do this? All the output codecs and things are different, can anyone tell me how to go along with this? I know how to do it with .AVI, but not with .MOV.

Also, when I tried putting this .AVI to (maybe a different) .AVI the file ended up being called AVI.AVI.

Help?

Re: Converting a camera video to .AVI or .MOV??

1) to encode to AVI
a. drag and drop your input file in SUPER(C)
b. select avi as Output container
c. uncheck "DirectShow Decode" (unless it is grayed when MEncoder is selected)
d. leave all other settings to default
e. hit encode

2) to encode to MOV
a. drag and drop your input file in SUPER(C)
b. select mov as Output container
c. uncheck "DirectShow Decode"
d. leave all other settings to default
e. hit encode

the Windows Operating System considers
all characters before the last dot as part of the name.
all characters after the last dot as the extension.
the file myfile.xls.doc.flv.mov.mpg is considered as MPG
