I would like to set the maximum bit rate for some encodings at 12,000 to 15,000, but the maximu it is allowing me is 9600.
Is there a way to increase this, or is there a set limitation for a reason, or just a bug in my installation?
thanks.

every selected codec shows only "legal" selected VideoBitrates.
not allowed VideoBitrates are not shown.
not to mention that encoding with a lower VideoBitrate compared to the original input
file would decrease quality, however, it is totally useless to encode with a much higher
VideoBitrate than the original input file as quality would never ever be increased.
example: encoding an input .flv originally at 300 KBps into AVI[DV Digital video] at 29 000 KBps
would drastically increase filesize with exactly same quality if not a 1~3% less

mpg/vob formats does not support any value higher than 9700 KBps, the highest allowed VideoBitrate values for mpg format are:
mpg VCD (MPEG-I) up to 1152 KBps http://www.digvid.info/media/vcd.php
mpg SVDC (MPEG-II) up to 2600 KBps http://www.digvid.info/media/svcd.php
vob DVD (MPEG-II) compliant format (like all commercial DVDs available on the market) up to 9800 KBps http://www.digvid.info/media/dvd.php
to get the same VideoBitrate of the input file, select the highest available
value from the drop down box and check the Top Qualityswitch.

Hi. Newbie here.
A quicktime data rate follow up question -- we regularly use qtime to create what's known as "unconstrained" data rate movies.
We choose the "automatic" function for data rate and in h264 or MPEG4 mode we get a 22-26Mbs mov file.
I saw in your post reply to set the data rate to the highest available and chose "top quality" to get the same data rate out as in.
The highest number in the list is 29040 - but we cannot choose over 9600.
When we do choose 9600 and top quality with a qtime reference file at 59Mbs for input, we get a 12-13 Mbs file.
Is there a way to up the data rate and/or choose the last option in the datarate drop-down list?
Also, qtime itself supports creating interlaced h234 mov files, but this option is grayed out - how can we turn it on?
Thanks so much.
Bob.
