SATA problems

I have been running my computer for about a year using IDE drives, decided to get myself a faster 250GB SATA drive a while back and installed XP on a 50GB partition, using the remaining 200GB and my 200GB IDE for storage, recently i've been getting the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death saying problems with NVraid (asus A8N-E with nvidea geforce4 chipset) whenever i copy data off the SATA or play games from that drive, so i thought i'd get a 400GB IDE and just forget about using SATA. The drive arrived and I was stupid enough to buy a SATA, but i've got it running now and its still bluescreening, this time only ever saying checksum not less or equal which i got occasionally before. i thought it was working OK whenever I ran the computer without the IDE but i'm still getting the problems, oh and the computer BSOD's before it even gets to windows if i have an IDE drive connected. Do I need a motherboard or a new hard drive? or have I overlooked something?
