Problem w/Vista???

Here's your precise and very well defined problem!  SUPER Won't do CRAP on Vista!  Not on my computer, at least.

I'm sorry, 96Crypt_mod, but I couldn't possibly come up with the specs on every single file that I'm trying to convert, because it simply won't do anything right...  And also SUPER freezes every time I try to open the file specs, and I'm definitely not a fan of literally copying (as in looking and typing) EVERYTHING from the Properties of the file...  Most of the time sound files will convert, and I think I've gotten one video to work right, but all of the others result in ERROR!

I understand maybe one specific file or conversion setup not working, but practically all of them?  The exact same presets worked on XP, so I know it has to be Vista...

So, my main question is does anyone else have this problem or is it just my computer?  If so, is there any possible solution, like some kind of download or anything?  The problem is obviously way too broad for details, so, the problem is simply that no matter what I'm trying to convert to or from, most if not all of my videos wont' do anything!

And before you give me a lecture on how to post, I will TRY to get the specifications for the latest file that I tried and failed and see if that helps any...  MAYBE there's a tiny detail I'm overlooking but I'd doubt it.  But I don't have time at this moment, so I'll do it as soon as I can.

Re: Problem w/Vista???

Hmmm...  I don't think I've ever seen a "file access denied" message, but I'll check it out anyway.

But yeah, I can't even post the specs because the properties of the file don't give me the information that I thought they did...  Or I can't find it...  And like I said, SUPER won't let me open it...

I just got a new Zune80 and it has less file acceptance than my previous player, so I need to convert my vids to WMV, which I tried doing using the Microsoft-Zune preset and it failed.  It was an MPG file, if that helps any, but that's all I can find out about it...

Anyway, I'll check out those other topics...

Re: Problem w/Vista???

Ok, I turned off account control, so I'm about to restart and see what happens.  Like I said, tho, my computer never gave any "Access Denied" messages, it just says "ERROR" or "AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED" or something like that, and when I click it still doesn't say anything about access denied...  But we'll see...

Sorry if I sounded like a jerk earlier, I'm not really, I just get frustrated easily and am kinda stressed right now...  So, yeah, sorry bout that...

Re: Problem w/Vista???

ok, nothing happened...  I tried three times and it froze the first time, the second time direct show was on and the third it was off, neither one of them worked.  So sticky's 3 and 4 didn't fix the problem.

Again, problem is that most of my video files won't convert regardless of what they are and what I'm trying to do.  I always get an error message that tells me to mess with direct show or that my files might be corrupt (which I'm pretty sure they're not...).  I can't get to file specs because Super freezes when I try.  I'm running Vista 32 bit.  I'm trying to get video onto a Zune80.

Any suggestions?  Just let me know what you guys need to know and I'll do my best to get it to you.

Re: Problem w/Vista???

these are the steps reported by all users using Vista to solve the problem:
ideally, you need to be logged on with full ADMIN credentials as mentioned on the FAQ
1. go to control panel > user accounts > turn user account control off (UAC)
2. go directly to where Super was installed and right click and "Run as Administrator".
3. turn all applications (super.exe, mencoder.exe, mplayer.exe, ff2ogg.exe,
ffmpeg.exe, mppenc.exe, x264.exe) in the "\program folder\erightsoft\super" to:
"xp compatibility mode" and "run as administrator"

Re: Problem w/Vista???

Hello all.

Thanks for the post 96_Crypt.  I did all you suggested above and I too get the "error has occurred" problem in Vista Home Premium 32 bit when trying to rip my Spiderman 3 dvd I just bought yesterday.  I have tried w/ directshow on and off as well as several different output formats.  The files immediately error out.

Media analysis of one of the vob files as I assume they are all the same coming from the same DVD:

Re: Problem w/Vista???

Strangely enough, those settings were already like that (at least I don't remember doing this before...).  But yeah, I've done everything suggested and there is still nothing happening.  It must have something to do with my computer, because all the specs for SUPER to run correctly have been put into play...

What could be wrong with my comp, though, that would cause SUPER to malfunction?  I can't remember accurately, but I'm pretty sure it used to run fairly smoothly on this machine, but also I could have just been using different files and not the ones I'm trying now...  But anyway, there's plenty of space, I've got a good amount of RAM, this computer is like 4 or 5 months old!

Any more suggestions???

Re: Problem w/Vista???

I've come to the same problem, but in a stranger way. I wanted to download some youtube videos to show in my geography class and did it with save2pc, wich automaticaly converts them to mpeg or avi or wmv. Then after doing so a few times right, the software started to save files with those same extensions, but windows media player didn't recognize them, nor BS player. I found the way to watch them, but I couldn't use them on Adobe Premiere to compile a project or rip them in some way my dvd player accepts.
So I tried other free software to download youtube videos. The strange thing is they all worked in turn, but after a day or so, the files returned were again not playable.
And that's how I got to a firefox plugin to save the videos in flv and SUPER to convert them. This seemed to have solved my problem, but after some time SUPER stopped working with the message "an ERROR has occurresd. Click to read more".
My awkward solution was downloading Riva flv encoder to re-encode the flv files downloaded from youtube to new flv files and then converting them with SUPER.
This worked... and now, again, "an ERROR has occurresd. Click to read more", no matter what I try to convert.
This is really, really annoying. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problem w/Vista???

Alright, well I'll continue to research this problem and let you all know what I find out...  Which probably won't be much...

If anyone else has any additional information other than that which has been given in Stickies 3 and 4 and has been mentioned above, PLEASE post it here!

For now, I'll just use Windows Media Encoder to encode my files to WMV files which will work with my Zune.

I was facing a similar problem with SUPER. But, now its fine this solution worked for me.

I am having the same problems with Vista.  I tried the above, but still cannot convert any files.  Just getting the error message.  Also drag and drop files does not work, I have to manually add files.

Any assistance would be much apreciated.

I'm sure this will be a stupid question but I just have to do it...
I went to Control Panel > user accounts but THEN I couldn't find the 'turn user account control off' thing.
Then, I tried to do what comes next, but I'm not sure what are you talking about when you said 'where Super was installed', I have it C: > Program Files > eRightSoft > Super >  a lot of Super files. So, where exactly do I have to do the 'right click and Run as Administrator'? I clicked on every single step but again, I couldn't find the 'Run as Administrator' thing.

Sorry for the newbie questions smiley-tongue

Thanks!
